O Comitê Organizador dos Jogos Olímpicos e Paralímpicos das Olimpíadas do Rio de Janeiro 2016 divulgou a relação das 172 instalações consideradas aptas como locais de treinamento pré-Jogos. O Complexo Poliesportivo da UCS está entre as selecionadas. O Complexo poderá receber seleções para o período de treinamento e aclimatação antes das Olimpíadas nas modalidades de voleibol, handebol, basquete e basquete em cadeira de rodas. Segundo o coordenador de Esportes e Formação da UCS, professor Ubirajara Maciel, diversas ações foram feitas durante o ano de 2011, obedecendo às diretrizes do Comitê Organizador dos Jogos, como a produção de um criterioso material contendo fotos da estrutura esportiva da Universidade. "Estamos contentes pelo reconhecimento que a estrutura esportiva da UCS recebeu do Comitê Organizador dos Jogos Olímpicos. Além disso, nossos acadêmicos poderão entrar em
contato com equipes de alto rendimento", observa. O professor diz, ainda, que entre as instalações que foram destacadas pelos avaliadores que estiveram na UCS no mês de outubro, está o Instituto de Medicina do Esporte e Ciências Aplicadas ao Movimento Humano (IME).
As instalações selecionadas serão apresentadas aos Comitês Olímpicos Nacionais (CONs) e Comitês Paralímpicos Nacionais (CPNs) através de um guia online que será lançado durante os Jogos Olímpicos e Paralímpicos Londres 2012.
